"War is peace, Freedom is slavery and I gnorance is strength."
1984 by Goerge Orwell, a dictopian novella listed in the list of must read books once in your lifetime. Well, my experience of reading was so horrific especially the end was disgusting. But I must say that I really enjoyed reading such material its like a propecy. The way communist societies behave (it must be noted that Orwelllian literature is against communalism as well as authoritarian government both in right and left wing) is well described in the book. Here Orwell is continuously pointing out the essence of language and when a language is changed or made it extinct, overall consequences will fall on the fate of human kind. The term Orwellian usually describes this situation. Furthermore, the mindset of people and their views are quite hostile towards the social institutions (family, marriage, economy, religion, government and education). The goal of the party is to remain in power by controlling people, their thoughts and blowing their mind by constant propagandas. Party make sure that humanly emotions are vanished by framing hatred between parents and their children. The goal of marriage is to produce kids for the party, there is no love between people. They are compelled to love "Big Brother" (their immortal leader).
In addition, if you are found to have distinct opinions then its a crime called "Thought Crime" and you are subject to tortures from beating, humiliating to picking out your cognitive ability by operating your brain (its dictopian everything is possible) and making you believe that 2+2=5. Winston Smith is the main protagonist and his journey from hating big brother to loving him as a saviour is so sad and offensive. At the beginning he hated every individual including his wife Katherine and his leader. The way their society works with no liberty is so fascinating and filled with dreadfulness. The psychology of Smith is difficult to interpret as in the end he felt comfort while embracing O'Brien who tortured and humiliated him. At one point Smith was forced to glance over the reflection of his old and worm out body after the seven years of torture and to accept those uncommitted crimes including murdering his wife who was alive. The society described here has unfixed past and changing records, inviduals are just vanished in the air as they never lived and there is nobody to ask about them. In addition, the character of Julia (Smith's Girlfriend or partner in crime as having a relationship other than marital is a fatal crime as) was bold and she knew what she wanted. So the reading experience was haunting and I was unable to sleep at night. Well, its must read book and as a bookworm I suggest you to read but at your own risk.
